Dallas Fire Rescue and Dallas Water Utilities Kick-off Grease Recycling Effort

Pilot project includes recycling stations at three Dallas fire stations

You’ll soon be able to drop-off used cooking oil at one of three Dallas Fire Stations as part of the city’s “Cease the Grease” project.  Officials with Dallas Water Utilities and Dallas Fire Rescue will formally kick off the partnership during a media briefing at (time) on Tuesday, April 19th at fire station #35 located at 3839 Walnut Hill Lane.

Dallas Water Utilities has been collecting used cooking oil for almost one year and giving that used oil to Dallas County Schools which converts the oil to biodiesel used to help fuel school busses.  Since the beginning of this school year, Dallas County Schools has saved over $300,000 in fuel costs by using biodiesel from recycled cooking oil.

“This pilot project with Dallas Fire Rescue will give Dallas citizens more locations to drop off and recycle used cooking oil,” said Jody Puckett, director of Dallas Water Utilities.  “Recycling used cooking oil help fuel school busses and helps reduce clogged sewers due to oil poured down your drain,” Puckett added.

The three Dallas fire stations involved in the pilot recycling project include station number 33 at 745 West Illinois Avenue, station number 34 at 1234 Carbona Drive @ Lake June Road and station number 35 at 3839 Walnut Hill Lane.  All three fire stations will have “Cease the Grease” recycling cages to place you used cooking oil.

Dallas Water Utilities has ten other locations including Dallas Farmers Market, Richland College, Mountain View College, Elliott’s Hardware on Maple Avenue and the Whole Foods on Abrams Road.
